摘 要:As Artificial Intelligence (AI) spreads in the public sector, its role in enhancing job performance merits attention. Framing AI as augmentation rather than automation, this study draws on Cognitive Load Theory to examine AI’s value as a cognitive partner. A field experiment with 408 employees in a Southwest China public security bureau used a 2 × 2 factorial design (AI vs. no AI; simple vs. complex tasks). Results show AI assistance significantly improves performance by fostering innovative work behavior, with stronger effects under complex tasks. Findings advance theory on human-AI collaboration and guide managers in leveraging AI.
